Well, it was a remarkable night. Great music!
We were about six rows from the front so had a WONDERFUL vantage point. I was hoarse and deaf by the time it was over:). Still haven't found my voice. At one point Paul had all 50,0000 of us sing along to Hey Jude, goose bump time. Later we all sang again, men vs women to Let it Be. Fun. Fireworks, rock n roll, bagpipes, quiet acoustic stuff, old classics.....the show had it all.
I was mesmerised. This guy is one of the legends. So relaxed on stage, such a huge catalogue of songs. He sang 36 songs.Terrific night it was:)
At one point Paul stopped after Calico Skies, he'd flubbed a line....and said "here I am trying to remember the lyrics to a song, perform it well and I've got that sign distracting me" The camera managed to get a shot of a crude bristol board that said Will you sign my arm so I can get it tattooed!!!. "What do you think?" he asked the audience. We all cheered him on and much to her delighted shock, the girl was escorted to the stage, he signed her shoulder, she hugged and kissed him and all the band members and then flounced deliriously off the stage, escorted by security:) He then said"You'd better the tattoo done now!"
Looks like he's ready too bonk me with the guitar:)
At the end of the concert, tons of red and white confetti was shot out into the crowd. Quite surreal really. We all drifted home in a happy daze.
I didn't mention how good local boy, Joel Plaskett was...he opened the show and it must have been such a huge thrill for them to look out and see a sea of 50,000 faces! Largest crowd they've ever performed for I wager:)
P.S. Did you notice the tattoo on the arm of the guy in the first picture?
10:03 am

Paul leaving the final sound check in the afternoon. The hand waving through the window on the opposite side is my daughter's!! How bizarre that I would snap a picture of the two of them waving:) We were walking to the concert and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It was a remarkable show.
I will post some more pics later. Tired this morning:)

"Baby you can drive my car" ..... right to the concert! This picture is Paul's first concert in the United States, Washington Coliseum, Feb 11, 1964. Tonight will be his first concert in Halifax.
He did a sound check last night much to the delight of many fans. One of the songs rehearsed was Mull of Kintyre complete with local bagpipers(you know how I feel about those:) and only the second time done live. This I was told by a lady from the United States who has seen him a bazillion times and is flying to New York after this concert to see him again and then again at another concert after that one! I wasn't at the sound check but was there in the afternoon to scout out the place and see what was what for today. There were quite a few people from "away" who have arrived to see this show. I am getting excited.

A quaint scene in Europe? No..... it is is Argyle Street in Halifax! Five streets up from the harbour. We have a lovely wee downtown squeezed between the water and Citadel Hill, our fortress, now a national museum. These pics were taken on one of our recent foggy days. The picture below is looking down Prince Street towards the Harbour. The Press Gang is a small restaurant with an outdoor patio. Years ago Press gangs used to roam the streets of 18th century Halifax, scooping up unfortunate drunks and pressing them into service for the Navy warships, like it or not. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 55 was fair game.
Today, the city is buzzing with Paul McCartney preparations. The outdoor stage is set and the sound check scheduled to happen this afternoon. The Nova Scotia Highland Games are also scheduled for this weekend, the Jazz festival starts and the Lebanese Weekend is on! Next week the Tall Ships arrive. Always something happening in this wee city. Tonight I hope to go get some Za'atar on fresh roasted pita! Yum! I'm so thrilled the sun is shining for everyone:)

YUM! First crop. You have no idea how excited I was to go outside this morning and fill this wee bowl! Our very first strawberries. It is just a small patch but next year, look out! I also plan on putting some straw around them to foil the slugs. These were some delicious ones that got away:)
Today is it! If you were thinking about buying a print to possibly win a ticket to see Sir Paul , the deadline is midnight tonight. I've got 5 names in the hat so far:) Fun! I can hardly wait to give that ticket to the winner:)

These cutie patootie wee paintings are for sale at LoveMe, Boutique in Halifax with more to follow:) Char has a small children's section in her shop and wanted some art available for them:) She has a terrific idea about starting an art collection early and each year adding to it. I think that's a great thought. Great to enjoy growing up and fun to take it with you when you leave to set up your own place.
So, tomorrow is the last day to buy a print from me and be eligible for a ticket to see Paul McCartney in concert! I only have one person who purchased! Well actually I have sold more prints than that since this started but only one person locally has bought and if no one else does, that lone purchaser is going to the concert:) Good time to think about buying that birthday gift for someone!
I drove by the commons and saw them setting up the stage. What a huge production! It is going to be exciting:) I'll try to take some pics.

Cheerful polka dotted foxgloves growing in my very green garden. These days, living in Halifax is like living in the Equatorial rainforest. Day after day of grey, steamy, hot, humid and wet weather with the very, very occasional glimpse of sun. I was awakened at four am this morning by the deep rumbling vibrations of thunder. A storm passing through the night. Today will be more of the same.....although......do I dare say it?.......it looks as though the sky might be getting brighter.
On the Paul McCartney ticket front, I have sold two prints to one person, so at this point, if no one else purchases, they are also now the proud owners of a Paul McCartney ticket:) Anyone else want to jump in, buy some art and have their name entered in the draw? Really great odds:) You have until Wednesday.
Also, for those of you who might not have seen it, I have a new Shelagh Duffett "fan"page on Facebook where I will post sales, new items, etc. Trying to separate personal from business. I don't use FB much at all but thought a page devoted to my biz ventures might be helpful. Sign on to join the fun:)

Hidden Beach Cottage, original available on eBay
Friday! We are going to the Tattoo tonight. Something we try to do every year. I think it's the massed bagpipes that does it for me. Love them. I think the world is divided into those that adore and those that cannot abide them:)
Still great odds for getting a free Paul McCartney ticket. Not a single local has purchased a print :~) I've sold three but not to anyone near here:) Makes sense I suppose because most of the people reading this are from outside this area. Also, it has to be someone who would want to go and likes the kind of work I do. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Enjoy the weekend!

This is my daughter doing something I've always wanted to do with her...... a photoshoot for the fun of it. Only friends are allowed to do that, lol. Aren't these great. They went to a graveyard at dusk on one of our recent gloomy wet days and created these. The tiny lips painted on my daughter make her look slightly creepy to me.
The photographer is Erin R. Bulger. A budding new artist! Good job! They ended up getting locked in the graveyard and had to scale a fence to get out:)
Don't forget, if you buy a print from either of my shops before next Wednesday, you might get a ticket to see Paul McCartney!

Hey, did you know that Nova Scotia has a thriving surf scene!? Just a thirty minute drive from where I live, is Lawrencetown Beach, where all year round you can find surfers doing their thing. Even in the dead of winter!! Wearing full body wet suits year round too. The water is chilly here.
I drove out here with my daughter on Saturday and we had a great time watching the waves, surfers, and listening to the deafening roar of the waves crashing and then raking over the pebbles. We talked to a young man and his girlfriend from Montreal who had come here to try the waves. It was an odd day with a giant fog bank just offshore, you can see it in the distance.
People come from all over the world to surf here. We counted 27 people on the water on Saturday. Who knew? Here at Lawrencetown, a small community of surfers has evolved. B&B's, shops, surf schools, and up high on the hill is MacDonald House, an old home now a tearoom and surfshop/rental place. H and I stopped in for lunch:) This was taken from that hill looking in the opposite direction. Way off to the right, strong rip currents have taken more than one life , swimming is forbidden there.
There are some cool website you can check out, one is Magic Seaweed that tells you the height of the waves. The day we were there they were 5' 6secs. Today I checked and they are 7' 6secs! A fantastic site is Scotia Surfer. Lots of great pics and info and links. Moonlight Beach Inn B&B, has a great aerial shot showing the area. Right now the beach is quite pebbled but depending on the time of year, tides and weather, it becomes sandy.
Those black dots floating in the water above the wave are surfers. Waiting for that perfect wave:) They sort of look like seals!
As always, my bold traveling companion, partner in crime. and daughter:)

Late in the day I always know where to find Monty. The sun streams into the back room and he can be found curled up on the bed smack dab in the middle of that pond of sunshine. I have a friend coming to visit for a few weeks. I hope she doesn't mind sharing:)

So I was quite shocked when I heard the news. I was surprised at how strong my reaction was . Michael was a sad mysterious character who definitely had some unsavory habits but he was a shining star in the musical world. His music made you want to move.
I have a lovely memory of listening to his music in Bermuda. We were staying on a small sailboat moored in St. Georges. In the warm evenings, from a small local bar just across the way, his music would float across the water and draw us out to dance. Good times:)

I've been having a lot of adventures recently! This is where I was taken for lunch today. Thanks Sandy! Fred. It is a gallery/cafe/hair salon! Bright and interesting and I loved the art exhibit on display at the moment. The Salon was off to the right out of sight at the end of this large and airy space.
I had a grilled veggie panini on multigrain bread with sweet potato honey and dilled cream cheese. Yum. A big chocolate Earl Grey cupcake for dessert:))
Afterward we went for a small stroll about the neighborhood to stretch out our tummies and poke about some shops. I really am not familiar with Agricola and there are lots of cool places to explore. I must go back.
We came across a wee shop "Heroine" (5775 Charles St.) which will be holding a Sweet Summer Sale (up to 75% off) only this weekend from 12-5 of Laura Chenoweth Organic Cotton Clothing. She is a local designer who works with artisans in India.
We had fun taking some snaps:) You know me....

01:37 pm - 2009 Lieutenant Governor's Garden Party

The Lieutenant Governor's garden party was a fun event this year and what glorious weather! It was held in the Royal Artillery park because of renovations to Government House and for the first time ever, the Honourable Mayann E. Francis extended an open invitation to all Nova Scotians!

( More pics under here:) )

Hydrangea Bouquet available on Ebay!
I adore hydrangeas. Especially the deep blue ones. Thought I would try painting some, not super happy with it but love the colours. As always, the computer fails to capture all the hues present in the "real" painting.
So, tonight is our final "bookclub" meeting until the fall. We always go to the same restaurant and I always order the same thing. I don't there often enough to get tired of it. I like traditions and this seems to have become one:) We are just a small group but we sure have fun. It also happens to be martini night:) Cheers!

Not only are these rhododendrons glorious to look at, the scent is AMAZING. I had no idea the orange ones were perfumed.
Today is a bit overcast and rain is forecast, a bit sad really because we had a wonderful week of sunshine and now, here it is, the weekend and wet weather. I have lots of projects to do as usual and a lot of internet catching up:) so I am ok with it.
Last night I saw The Proposal with Sandra Bullock, fun and fun. I enjoy her. I also saw My Life in Ruins last week and enjoyed it too. A bit over the top and hokey dialogue but at the end of the movie you feel good:) I grew to like the characters and of course the scenery was gorgeous Greece! Two light happy flicks. Mental bubblegum as my dad used to say.
Here is something I came across in a blog I enjoy and found it interesting. We are all doing sit ups the wrong way! Here's how to do them to protect your back! Watch the video also.

The tree on the left is a magnificent copper beech. On the Garden Tour this last weekend, one of the houses was situated next to one the original old graveyards in Dartmouth. There were a couple of magnificent trees that overhung their yard. It was these trees that made the home owners decide to purchase and create their garden.
We walked into the graveyard after and took some pics. The picture of the tree below is not the trunk! Those are two limbs branching off the trunk! It is an ENORMOUS old tree. High, high up the trunk there are some initials carved, professing love. I was wondering just how long ago they were etched there. Where are those lovers now? Are they still here? Do they remember carving their names ? That beautiful tree will carry their poem as long as it lives.
Yesterday mum and I went to the Garden Party of The Honourable Mayann E. Francis, ONS, DHumL, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia! It was fun. Pics to come:)
